The Power of Stillness

Whilst I am still living in a physical body in a physical world, I have noticed that I have only one problem: I cannot be still all of the time. When you still your mind in meditation you are not at risk. When you stand absolutely still for a while like a tree, you are not in any kind of danger; you are at peace. In total stillness, we dwell in perfect peace, and then all our problems have to disappear, at least for a while.

Ultimately, very advanced spiritual practitioners find that all their problems disappear for good. A great stillness fills their minds and hearts permanently. All their egoic likes and aversions, desires and hatreds dissolve into the light and all that is left is an enigmatic smile of deep appreciation for the divine power, beauty and wisdom of Life Itself.

If you are a very busy, agitated, normal human being, it may take you several months, or even years, of diligent practice before you can still your mind at will, and thus free yourself from all egoic attack for a while. When you are calm, your egoic thought system has no power over you. You may still notice an egoic urge to attack someone, but this urge will no longer propel you into action. Five minutes of pure stillness a day can rescue your whole life: your relationships, your health, your future prosperity.

Am I gifted? Yes, I am gifted at being still. This is my gift to the world. Most people simply cannot do this, and so when their plane is delayed, they become incredibly agitated; a pipe bursts in their house, and they are beside themselves. This is an insane way to live, but we all do it until we learn how to be still.

I teach all of my students to breathe consciously, and I try to teach them all to meditate as a formal training in stillness. Now, even if I am watching an action packed film, I will look as though I am meditating, because I stay in stillness. I no longer lose myself in day to day activities. I breathe and return to stillness all through my day.

Dwelling in stillness is not about doing nothing. It simply means that you connect to your silent, still core whilst you do anything. You connect to this inner stillness while you walk, talk, drive, earn money, or make love. When you make and then drink a cup of tea while you are connected to this stillness, you can find love in it. You do not have to perform an elaborate tea ceremony. You just breathe, connect to inner stillness, and then find love in a tea bag. If you do everything with this still, loving, mindful intention, you will find the priceless joy of life in absolutely any worldly activity, however mundane it may superficially appear to be.

When you are on a spiritual retreat or attending a meditation workshop with a group of experienced practitioners, being still can seem easy. But when you are facing the world, with all its stormy ups and downs, being still and centred is not easy at all. Eventually however, your stillness and peace have to be stronger than the strongest worldly storms and challenges. True kindness and love are infinitely empowering, but to be able to extend them to others, we need to be able to calm our own minds and emotions at will, and this takes an awful lot of disciplined training in the spiritual art of stillness.

Meditation is time out from the world. When we are in a meditative state, we can still be aware of the world with all its endless problems and conflicts, but our minds are not being blown about by these external hurricanes. This is real spiritual power.

Being still is not the same as collapsing, or giving up, or slumping in front of the fire or TV. Normal relaxation actually sends us into a more or less unconscious state, and when we sit with a curved spine and a sagging tummy, we cannot align ourselves with the light. We are thus separated from the true source of all our power, and inevitably feel vulnerable and afraid.

When my students and I align ourselves in infinite Meditation, we form a pyramid with our palms stretched out at our base centre. This is actually a form of sacred geometry, and by this posture alone, we can start to empower ourselves. Everything in nature has a perfect geometric shape-just look at snowflakes through a microscope. But most human beings are so distorted. However, when you re-align yourself and come into natural harmony, you always re-empower yourself.

Whenever I do anything in this world, I always align myself first and then I do my very best not to rush, because when we rush, we always lose the power of stillness, focus and alignment. So please organise your life to be as simple as possible so that you do not have to rush about too much. Most people are blown about by constant worldly winds and hurricanes. They are like autumn leaves with no control over their own destiny whatsoever. I really do not want to lead a life like this. So, for example, I always sit very still in an airport while other people panic and rush about all over the place. I do not rush to be first on my plane. I know there will always be a perfect seat waiting for me.
You do not have to be busy to be outstandingly successful in this world. Being busy and rushing everywhere is simply a very bad habit that an awful lot of people have developed until just they cannot slow down, let alone stop and be still for a while.

Can you walk through a busy shopping centre whilst holding your inner stillness? Can you hold a conversation with a group of friends without losing your centre? That is real power. Someone who is still, calm and centred will exude confidence even in a major crisis. When the whole room is erupting in panic and argument and you can still hold your inner peace , and stay perfectly aligned and centred, you are the only one in that room with any real power.

The world you live in will always try to push and pull you out of centre. But what if you have cultivated the power of stillness? In stillness, you can simply wait for the solution to any problem to be given to you. The solution is always there 100 percent of the time. The power of stillness is that good! Whenever I meditate and reach a point of perfect stillness, I get in touch with a higher intelligence that is supremely powerful.
When I meditate, I am not just still. I am still in the light. This is not just stillness, it is dynamic stillness, and this supreme state of being is all powerful. In this stillness, the light will illuminate your whole being until you become a radiant presence in the world. Then you can extend this radiant energy out into your workplace, your home and your community, and everyone will benefit as their consciousness is naturally uplifted by your inner light, your radiant presence and your deep inner stillness.

The Power of True Compassion

When you are finally dwelling in nothing but perfect peace and see others in turmoil, you will naturally feel compassion for them. Then you can pray to a much higher power ‘Please show me how I can assist my brothers and sisters to be at peace’, and whatever you need to do to assist them will be revealed to you.

When you raise your vibrations up to the level of the mountaintop, you will naturally connect to the power of spiritual compassion and kindness. Heart centred compassion is naturally yin, but you will also need a lot of yang strength in order to assist your troubled brothers and sisters to find their own inner peace and true centre. Real spirituality is not just soft and lovey-dovey. It is very strong and totally practical.
I am one of the most practical spiritual teachers you could ever meet. I am a very normal and highly successful human being. But I have given priority day in and day out to my spiritual practice, until I now witness miracles in action over and over again.

You too can connect to the light, purify, heal and release all your inner darkness, and then ask for miracles to happen through you, and they will. Still your mind, hold the radiant light with the whole of your being, and expect miracles. Don’t join the panicking rat race. What for? Stay centred and follow your heart’s intuition. Don’t pity others who are still struggling through life. Simply love and support them unconditionally with radiant energy and unshakeable inner peace. In this all-powerful energy, you can pray for a miracle to happen to your loved ones, and know without a shadow of a doubt that your prayers will be answered.

Life is so beautiful when you no longer get sucked into the whirlwind of negative energy that pulls everyone down into the valley of death. When you can raise yourself up to the radiant mountaintop, you can demonstrate to the whole human race how to live a life filled with abundance, lasting peace, joy and total freedom. Please remind yourself of the true beauty of life by making your every breath a prayer. Breathe, still your lower, thinking mind, tune into the light and give thanks for your infinite abundance. If you can do this, you are rich beyond measure, and your priceless inner wealth will naturally empower each and every one you meet.
